Sinopia Clay Bole - Classic Bordeaux Red - 100ml

Sinopia Classic Bordeaux Red Clay Bole is a premium, finely milled Kaolin clay formulated for traditional water gilding under gold leaf. This slightly cooler, wine red tone has a slight purply hint to it and is based on historic French recipes and has been used over the years to create rich, luminous gold finishes. Ideal for frame making, icon painting, and traditional decorative gilding.

Application Tips

As with all clays, the Sinopia Clay Bole will need to be mixed with a hide glue, such as rabbit-skin glue before applying to the piece.

Please note, the Sinopia Clay Bole is thick out of the bottle and will need generous thinning with water until it reaches the consistency of cream. It is not recommend to mix the Sinopia Clay Bole directly with natural glues without first thinning the clay with water.
