Metallic sheets with a unique colour and appearance, made from artfully aged Silver.
The unique colours and finish of the oxide silver leaf comes not from dyes or resins but from skilful application of heat and chemicals. These secret recipes react with the silver in various ways to bring up coloured patination. The oxidation gives the leaves a different look and feel from the more traditionally dyed coloured Silver.
If you prefer to stop the natural advancement of the oxidation it is necessary to protect the surface with a varnish - however, by coating the surface you could dull some of the vibrancy of the colour.
The leaf comes in sheets of size 129mm x 129mm and is supplied in packs either of 10 loose leaves or 100 loose leaves with each individual leaf separated by a sheet of tissue paper.
Some points to consider when using oxidised silver leaf:
- NOTE: Due to the process undergone by the silver to develop its unique colouration that it has become very brittle and must be handled delicately.
- While every effort is made to achieve consistency of colour sometimes there can be noticeable colour differences. If you are looking to do larger projects with your leaf please get in touch with us and we will do our best to ensure the leaf all comes from the same batch.
