Our silver leaf is pure silver metal that has been beaten into incredibly fine and delicate sheets for use in gilding. This leaf is supplied as loose leaf, with each leaf in the booklet sitting loosely between rouged paper sheets. loose silver is incredibly delicate and is too fine to be handled by hand. When working with loose leaf you must always use a gilders tip to pick up the leaf. Silver is prone to tarnishing is most decorative applications and some care must be taken in its application to ensure the best possible finish. We recommend the use of acrylic size and lacquer, where possible, when working with silver. For sealing and protecting silver leaf we highly recommend using Robersons Crystal Clear Shellac Varnish to seal and prevent the leaf from tarnishing. In order to gild a flat square meter of surface you will need around 6.5 booklets of 80 x 80mm silver.
