Kölner Colnasol

Kölner Colnasol is a premixed animal hide glue product. By dissolving a tablet in water, you create a ‘gilding water’ that works with the Kölner Fond base. Using these products together you can create burnished, high gloss gilding using gold or silver leaf.

Colnasol comes as large gel tablets. To use these tablets, you must dissolve them in hot water. A single 10g tablet requires 500ml of water to dissolve completely. If you need smaller amounts of gilding water, then use smaller pieces of the tablet and proportionally smaller amounts of water.

After leaving the water to cool, apply the gilding water to the Fond, then lay the leaf. After applying the leaf, you should wait at least 24 hours before burnishing the leaf
