Kölner Miniatum Gel - 100ml

Kölner Miniatum Gel is a water-based gilding adhesive (size) with the same flexibility and brilliant final finish as Miniatum, but in a heavy-body gel. Its thick, paste-like consistency can be built up to create raised relief effects, and the contours and textures you can achieve help the leaf catch the light for dazzling and bright highlights on raised areas, and dark shadows in relief.

You can apply Miniatum Gel to nearly any flexible substrate—it works on paper, parchment, canvas, plastics, leather and more—and application can be done with a stiff brush, palette knife, small spatulas or other modelling tools.

Miniatum Gel also works well with stencils; allow it to set slightly before removing the stencil to keep the lines crisp.

It is compatible with nearly all commonly used metal leaf, including genuine gold and silver as well as aluminium, copper and imitation gold leaf.

Allow Miniatum Gel to dry for at least 3 hours, then test readiness with a piece of transfer paper from a booklet of gold leaf; if the paper does not stick, the size is ready for gilding. Heavier leaves such as aluminium, copper and imitation gold should be applied within 12 hours of application, when the adhesive is at its strongest, while genuine gold and silver can be applied up to 72 hours after application.

If the surface becomes too dry and the leaf is no longer adhering, you can reactivate the size with warm air, such as from a hairdryer, for up to 5 days after application.
