Wood Stain Pre-Stain Conditioner forms a vital part of the process of staining porous woods, particularly ones like maple, fir and pine. The Pre-Stain Conditioner has much the same formulation as the Wood Stains themselves but without their high-quality pigments. This transparent coat will partially penetrate into the wood helping the follow up coats of Wood Stain penetrate more evenly to reduce any ugly blotching or spotting.

General Finishes Wood Stains are water-based stains designed to work like oil-based stains. Wood Stains are low odour and low VOC but still have generous working times like oil stains. The long open times mean Wood Stains spread easily, blend easily and can be repaired easily. Wood Stains thick formula contains high-quality pigments in a heavy-bodied binder. This allows for controlled penetration of the pigment, producing rich, dark uniform colours. It even works superbly on hard-to-stain woods like maple and pine! The cutting-edge pigments give a more consistent colour that is highly resistant to fading over time.
