These striking and flexible sheets have a sheen and iridescence that man-made materials can't dream to imitate. Each sheet consists of smaller strips of shell that have been thinly sawed by hand from ethically-sourced abalone shell. These strips are colour matched before being bound together by epoxy. This gives each sheet a pleasant and uniform colouring but some variation will exist from sheet to sheet.
The sheets have been cut ultra thin to give them a flexibility the thicker sheets don't have and they will conform to curves. The sheets also come supplied with a self-adhesive backing that will stick to most surfaces. The thin nature of the material is ideal for surface finishes, similar to using gold leaf. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including furniture and art!
It is also important when buying and using abalone that the visual appearance and colours of the sheet vary depending on lighting and angle of viewing. We recommend creating test pieces when using abalone before going into full-scale production.
