Shell Gold
Shell Gold is a traditional product used by calligraphers to create illuminated manuscripts. Named for the sea-shells that it used to be made in, shell gold is finely-milled gold dust mixed with gum Arabic. This creates a gold pigment that can be used by rubbing a wetted brush over the block to gather up the gold and paint with it.
