Rottenstone
An ultra-fine abrasive powder, that can be mixed with an oil (like linseed oil) to form a very fine abrasive paste. This is used for the final polishing of french polish finishes and gives it the distinctive high-gloss look.
Rottenstone is also sometimes also dusted over a new finish to give it the appearence of being old and dusty.
