Base Colours

Our range of modern alternatives to traditional gilders clay base colours for gilding. These paints are ready mixed and can be painted straight from container with no need for mixing or dealing with animal hide glue!

We recommend the use of earthy yellows and reds under gold, particularly the red and yellow ochre colours. Under silver we recommend blue and black for creating the most desirable undertones.

These products are unsuitable for use in a water gilding process but are well suited for use with oil-based and water-based gold size.
