Rabbit Skin Glues

Rabbit skin glue is a traditional animal hide glue made from rendered collagen from animal sources. It is traditionally widely used in gilding, particularly water gilding, where is serves as the binder in the gesso and bole mixes. 

Rabbit skin glue is also sometimes used as 'sizing', in this context a sealer, by artists where it is used to prepare traditional canvasses prior to application of a oil-painting ground.
