Tamise flakes are GO!!!
-
Although this review is attached to this colour/number, my comments apply to the whole range of Tamise flakes. The box contains a wonderful mixture of flakes of all sizes - from postage stamp (an occasionally even bigger!) to saccharin pill size. I work with turned wood finished with microcrystalline wax. I use Kolner Permacol as my adhesive and these flakes adhere extremely well. Typically I wait 10-20 minutes for the size to ripen before applying the leaves. When I'm ready to apply, I tip out a 'portion' onto a sheet of white glossy cardboard and use bamboo tweezers to search through the flakes to see what treasures I've got! If I spot large flakes I will select them and lay them randomly with tweezers and a very soft brush on my prepared wood to build up a collage. It's slow work but great fun! If I'm aiming for a more chaotic and random pattern (equally beautiful!) I pick up a pinch of flakes and dot them all over the size. I then take a stiffer bristles brush and 'pounce' the tips into the flakes to encourage them to adhere. With both methods, I force myself to wait 24 hours before starting the brush-off. I love this bit! This is when the exciting colours, intriguing textures and amazing light-catchers reveal themselves. I do two brushings, then a wipe with a microfibre cloth before patiently and carefully paining on the Kolner Leaf Protector. Tamise is a wonderful way of gilding, and the colour ranges are a delight. I intersperse tamise with abburstig to create interesting textural illusions, and coloured silver leaf to create rough-sleek contrasts. Great product. Great quality. Great fun to work with.
