Pearlescent powder, also known as mica powder, is made from ground mica and creates an iridescent powder containing many shimmering particles. The powder can be used in a variety of ways and can be used in a many differing mediums, including acrylic mediums and shellac varnishes. By controlling the amount of powder added to a medium you can control the depth of colour, a small amount creates a sparkly veil of colour, whereas larger amounts can create an almost solid block of iridescent colour.
Due to the nature of the powder the colour can vary greatly depending on the background to which it is applied, the above picture is that of the powder in the jar and is not indicative of the actual effects that can be created using this powder.
