Hake brushes are inexpensive brushes primarily used by watercolourists. The long, white goat-hair bristles will hold considerable amounts of water. This makes them perfect for flooding areas with water when wetting paper or applying colour. The goat-hair is incredibly soft so it will not damage or lift previous colours when glazing over existing work.
Artists will also find the soft bristles and generous capacity for liquid helpful when glazing pottery as it will hold a lot of glaze and the soft bristles will ensure even coverage of wide areas. Some artists will also use these brushes to remove dust and waste from rubbers and erasers as the brush will gently sweep them away without damage the surface.
