Cern, also known as outliner, is used in glass painting to create leaded stained glass effects. Cern is water-based and easily washable, and comes in a tube with a specially-fitted nozzle allowing it to be used much like a pen. For best results use a pattern as a guide, either by tracing an image on a sheet of paper below the glass or one drawn onto the glass using a similarly coloured marker, then apply the Cern and allow an hour to dry. Vitrail Glass Paint can then be applied to the areas outlined by the Cern for an authentic-looking faux-stained glass finish.
