Pearlescent powder, also known as mica powder, is made from ground mica and creates an irridescent powder containing many shimmering particles. The powder can be used in a variety of ways and can be used in a many differing mediums, including acrylic mediums and shellac varnishes. By controlling the amount of powder added to a medium you can control the depth of color, a small amount creates a sparkly veil of colour, whereas larger amounts can create an almost solid block of irridescent colour. Due to the nature of the powder the colour can vary greatly depending on the background to which it is applied, please refer to the images on top of the page for an example of the powder applied to a white and a black background.
