The system is a new, reliable way of achieving a high quality gilded finish. It can be used with gold, silver and metal leaf. Provides a shine or mirror gloss finish without the need for agate burnishing.

Apply 2 coats of gesso bole. If not using gesso bole, porous surfaces should be first sealed with base size diluted 15 with water. Two coats of base size are applied with 30 minutes between coats. Once the second coat is dry, apply the Top Size Activator and allow to dry. Apply leaf. Once the leaf is applied, a mirror finish can be obtained by rubbing cotton wool over the finished surface.

It is important when applying the base size and activator that thin, even coats are applied otherwise the effect can be patchy. Apply with a good flat nylon brush.

Gold and Silver leaf applied with the Easy-gild system can be distressed and aged using wire wool in the same way as traditional water gilding.

It must be pointed out that this gilding system in no way replaces genuine water gilding. It is designed to give the burnished effect of a gilded item without all the laborious layering of gesso and bole etc. and is particularly effective where sections or thin bands of an item are required to be burnished gilt. Not really suitable for large areas of gilding.
